In order for your macaw to enjoy a happy, healthy and long life they will need a balanced diet of commercial macaw food and lots of fat an oil in their diet. Mixed nuts can be used as macaw food to provide a healthy source of fat. To keep your macaw’s diet balanced cooked beans, pasta, and wild rice are great macaw foods to add variety. A good way to consider macaw food is, if it is nutritionally sound and wholesome for you the human, it is generally safe for use as a macaw food. Macaws love eating fruits and veggies as macaw food, but stay away from veggies that offer no nutritional value, such as iceberg lettuce. Some things to never feed as macaw food: avocado and chocolate.

Macaw Pellets

Beside veggies and fruits and ‘people’ food, your macaw should also be fed macaw pellets in addition to their other macaw food. It’s a good idea to offer macaw pellets as 30-60 percent of your macaw diet. There are many choices of macaw pellets out there and macaw’s are known for being finicky eaters so a little experimenting to determine what type of macaw pellet your macaw likes might be necessary. Macaws are sloppy eaters and often waste a lot of their macaw food, macaw seeds, and macaw pellets. They love rummaging through their bowls and getting macaw pellets, macaw seeds and macaw food all over the place. If your macaw is a waster, just supply a little more macaw food when you see the macaw pellets are getting all over the place.
