Turtle Food
Depending on the type of turtle or tortoise you have will dictate the type of turtle food or tortoise food you feed. Here are some examples of the different types diets turtles and tortoises have. Pond turtles eat mostly aquatic meats such as krill, shrimp and worms when they are young and as they age they enjoy the addition of dark leafy greens and colorful vegetables. Box turtles tend to eat mostly insect type meats such as bugs, worms and very lean meat items. The rest of the box turtle diet consists of plants similar to what they would get by foraging in their natural environment, such as dark leafy greens, fruits, and the like. Grassland tortoises eat mostly what they can forage, dry grasses, hays, leaves and flowers supplemented with various veggies. Forest tortoises eat mostly fruits, proteins and wetter vegetables. For all turtles and tortoises food items that are too fatty or sugary can be quite bad when used as a turtle food or tortoise food and can cause illness and even death. A simple rule of thumb to follow is to feed your turtle and tortoise food items normally available to your pet in the wild.
