Rabbit Litter Pans

Once you’ve selected good rabbit litter pans it’s time to start training your pet rabbit to use his new rabbit litter pans. It’s a good idea to begin to train your rabbit to use the rabbit litter pans from the beginning – if they are allowed to go potty wherever they want from the beginning, they will be much harder to train. In the beginning keep your rabbit inside his cage with his rabbit litter pans and when he goes potty note the location and move the rabbit litter pans to that location. Once you have the placement of the rabbit litter pans correct you can allow your rabbit out of the cage in a limited area. Provide the rabbit litter pans within this area outside his cage, and when they are about to go potty try to herd him into his rabbit litter pans. If your rabbit uses his rabbit litter pans give verbal encouragement, try to avoid giving actual treats.

If your rabbit does his business in a place outside his rabbit litter pans don’t punish him, he has no way of knowing that he’s getting punished for not going inside the rabbit litter pans, just clean it up and remember that the key to training is getting your rabbit to the rabbit litter pans before he goes. Gradually over time your pet rabbit will develop a preference for using the rabbit litter pans, but before that time you might want to provide multiple rabbit litter pans for him to use when he is outside of his cage. Go with what you feel your rabbit wants, for example if he goes in a certain area, place rabbit litter pans in that area. In the beginning, when your rabbit is outside of his cage provide your undivided attention to him and ensure that when he goes potty he does it in his rabbit litter pans, gradually give him more freedom when you see that he is actually using his rabbit litter pans, and then, before you know it, he’ll be using his rabbit litter pans without you overseeing his bathroom duties.
