Canary Food

By providing quality canary food your pet canary will be both healthy and happy, and their appearance will show this. You should know that every single day your canary should get a high protein food in addition to their regular canary food. Most canary breeders will use chopped hardboiled eggs or a special canary nestling food, or a mixture of both. During the breeding and molting seasons your canary should get as much high protein canary food as they will eat. At other times your canary should get about half a teaspoon a day of high protein canary food in addition to their regular canary food. Any fruit or green veggie is also a welcomed addition to regular canary food, with the exception of avocado.

Canary Seeds

In the wild a canary has different types of seeds available to him at different times of the year and eat according to their nutritional demand. Pet canary food usually consists of a mixture of seeds and the canary will usually eat only their favorite seed, leaving the other type alone. A typical canary seed food diet consists of 70 percent canary seed and 30 percent rape seed, this combination is often called ‘black and white.’ You want to provide the best type of canary food to your pet canary to ensure their health and longevity, but did you know that their appearance has a direct correlation to what they eat? For instance a canary can develop a bright orange shade by the addition of paprika to their canary food. When selecting a canary food remember that to ensure the health of your canary they need a complete diet consisting of canary seed or canary pellets, fresh veggies, fruit, and vitamins. Don’t forget the fresh, clean water, too! By providing a complete diet with healthy canary food, you’re ensuring the health and happiness of your feathered friend.

Canary Pellets

Canary pellets are a good source of complete nutrition for your pet canary. Like most seed-eating birds, canaries eat more than just seed, including insects, fruits and derive vitamin D from the sunlight. Even the best canary seed mix is not a complete diet for long term health of your canary. When feeding just canary seed, owners typically will supplement the canary seed diet with cooked eggs, green vegetables, and vitamins – it’s difficult work to ensure a balanced diet for your canary. Canary Pellets offer a complete and healthy diet for your canary with additional benefits such as less mess, more accessible, less waste, and much more. Canary pellets can be kept at room temperature and left in your bird’s cage for weeks on end, if the humidity of the cage is low.
